During the pandemic, it has forced the education systems worldwide to find alternatives to face-to-face learning. As a result, online teaching and learning have been used by teachers and students on an unprecedented scale. Since lockdown, online learning has been a great alternative for teachers and students to continue the education system. Now that the pandemic has changed to endemic, the education system is slowly becoming normal, and student and teacher can have their face-to-face classes as normal.

Parents may grab this as an opportunity during the pandemic because students don’t use as much money for their school expenses and parents can save their money for the future of their child. While in the pandemic, parents can also monitor their child education and may help them in their studies. But now, the government has announced that in endemic the education system can be held in face-to-face mode.

Another major issue in pandemic for students is their connectivity issue during joining an online class. Some students may have weak or even no internet connection. This issue is widely known in Malaysia for its lack of internet coverage and mostly in the village. Some of their parents have already handed in reports of the lack of internet coverage to their representatives and no action has been taken.

A massive change in online classes are some educators can hold an online tuition class and can hold up to more students in a single session. A physical class can only hold a certain amount of students depending on the venue. This is an opportunity for the educators to manage their time and student and their teacher can set their time for an online tuition class.

Nevertheless, an online class during the pandemic is difficult for some students. Teachers are afraid that students may not understand the material upon studying online and might be left behind. In malaymail stated on 5 December 2021, a total of 21,316 students did not complete their education and dropped out of schools during the lockdown. In a written parliamentary reply, the Education Ministry stated that it defined dropouts from the education systems as situations where Malaysian students were schooled but who left the education system before completing the period of education. In other words, students stopped schooling before they could finish their studies

While COVID-19 is slowly improving and we have moved to the endemic phase, we still have to be aware that the virus are still there. There are still a lot of room to improve for the class that is held face-to-face to keep students and teachers safe. And more importantly, is to keep our education system alive.
